Our strength is in unity

New year’s first week turned out to be rather difficult for our country. Protests on the square, which began with a peaceful rally, turned into riots. People’s main aim was the improvement, not the aggravation of the situation in the country. However, due to the lack of a clear plan and order in several cities of Kazakhstan, state institutions and buildings were on fire. Deliberate actions of those who abused this moment caused chaos. Attacks on the police, looting, and human casualties led to the entry of CSTO forces into Kazakhstan. Today the situation throughout the country has stabilized.

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev described events as an attempted coup. According to him, the riots that were coordinated from a single center simultaneously covered 11 regions of Kazakhstan, in 9 regional centers, and in the country's largest city Almaty, actual control was lost. At the same time, in all these regions, attacks were made on the buildings of regional authorities, law enforcement agencies, pre-trial detention centers, strategic facilities, banks, a TV tower, and TV channels, airports were seized, roads and railways were blocked, the work of ambulances and firefighters was blocked. To take possession of weapons and military equipment, attacks were carried out on military units and army checkpoints. Unfortunately, a number of police officers and military personnel who honestly served people and peace died. This is an irreparable loss not only of a single family, but of the entire country.

Since Kazakh Khanate, our people have gone through many difficulties and more severe days than nowadays. The spirit of the great steppe is stronger than all the troubles that have befallen us to this day. Thus, we must remember that our strength is in unity. Museofnomad editors express their deep condolences to the families and friends of all those who died as a result of riots in the republic. We also urge you to remember your civic duty, unite and support the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, in the name of maintaining peace and stability in the country. Kazakhstan is our common home, native land, and "amanat" of our ancestors.
