The European Union and Kazakhstan have been cooperating for 29 years
This year marks the 29th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and the European Union. In 1993, Kazakhstan opened its representation at the European Union, and in 1994 the EU opened its representation in our country.
The European Union is one of the important strategic partners of Kazakhstan in the international arena. In November 2021, during a trip to Brussels, President K. Tokayev noted that over the past three decades, Kazakhstan and the EU have established relationships based on trust, mutual respect, and common leadership.
An important component of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU is the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA entered into force on March 1st, 2021), which covers 29 areas of cooperation, ranging from trade and investment to science and tourism.
The parties paid great attention to the full implementation of the SRPS. Important areas of cooperation are such areas as the transition to a “green” economy, the use of eco-friendly technology in the framework of the European Green Pact, the fight against climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, etc.
The total amount of EU investment in the economy of Kazakhstan is 160 billion US dollars. In turn, our country is also the leading partner of the EU in the region. The total volume of bilateral trade is 24 billion US dollars.
Cooperation with Kazakhstan is essential in the framework of the EU strategy for Central Asia.
2021 has become a breakthrough year for Europe-Kazakhstan relations. During his first official visit to Brussels, the head of state, K.Tokayev, communicated with the heads of the council and commission, S.Michel and U.von der Leyen. This trip provided a powerful incentive to cooperate and allowed the parties to compare positions on topical issues and outlined promising areas of relations.
The meetings were also held by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Minister of Foreign Affairs M. Tleuberdiev, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for International Cooperation E. Kazykhan, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Kuspan, Minister of Justice M. Beketaev, Minister of Trade and Integration B. Sultanov and others.
We hope that 2022 will be just as meaningful and fruitful. Return visits of the EU leaders are expected, which will further strengthen friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation.
